‘They could be the living dead – not the shuffling corpses of classic zombie movies but the dynamic figures of 28 days later’ Sanjoy Roy – The Guardian.

‘They stared down the audience, aggressively contorted themselves and shadowboxed with one another, moving with exquisite sharpness and grim grace’ Ka Bradley.

We are just beings, until we find our identity. ‘Smirk’ explores the change in social behaviours through deindividuation, and how we become something unhuman going against social norms. It’s the quest of finding ourselves where the struggles commence.

Friction Dance Theatre’s ‘Smirk’ premiered  28th January 2016 at London Contemporary Dance School as part of Resolution Festival 2016. Other venues include Bristol Harbourside Festival, Trinity Laban, and various community performances.
